Native to India, axis deer have flourished throughout the Texas Hill Country, thriving among rolling limestone hills, juniper-covered valleys, and scattered Live Oak groves. Known for their striking spotted coats, distinctive bugle-like vocalizations, and exceptional table fare, axis deer have become one of the most sought-after exotic species in Texas. With year-round hunting opportunities, they also provide an excellent option for hunters looking to extend their season.
Most of our axis deer hunts take place during the primary rut from mid-May through August, when mature bucks are hard-horned, highly active, and vocal throughout the day. These hunts typically combine spot-and-stalk tactics, glassing, and calling to locate and pursue mature bucks. While we generally prefer active hunting methods, blind hunting can be accommodated upon request.
Axis deer are often found in rugged country, and hunters should be prepared to navigate uneven, rocky terrain in temperatures that frequently exceed 100 degrees. Snake boots or snake gaiters are strongly recommended during the warmer months. Shot opportunities typically range from 100 to 300 yards, although longer shots may occasionally be required depending on terrain and conditions.
Our hunts are typically conducted on a fully guided 2×1 basis, allowing hunters to take advantage of the multiple trophy opportunities often encountered during a hunt. Each hunt includes comfortable ranch-style lodging, home-style meals, and professional guides dedicated to providing a memorable experience.
Hunters can expect opportunities at mature trophy bucks with main beams exceeding 30 inches, with brow tines and caudal tines.
