Elk Hunting

Elk are among the most sought-after big game species in North America, and while Texas may not be the first destination that comes to mind, West Texas offers a unique opportunity to pursue free-range bulls in expansive, rugged country. After being reintroduced to the region in the early 1900s, elk have established thriving populations throughout portions of the state’s mountainous landscapes.

At Texas Hunting Resources, we are fortunate to have access to some of the highest-quality elk habitat in Texas. Most of our hunts take place during September and October when the rut is in full swing. During this time, bugling bulls are highly responsive to calling, creating exciting opportunities for close encounters and unforgettable hunting experiences. Through careful management and limited hunting pressure, the ranches we hunt consistently produce mature bulls that respond well during the rut.

Unlike many western states, elk in Texas are managed as an exotic species, meaning there are no special draw requirements and no closed season. Combined with large private ranches, excellent infrastructure, and elevations ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 feet, these hunts provide an accessible elk hunting experience for hunters of varying skill levels and physical abilities.

Our all-inclusive elk hunts are structured as four-day experiences, including a half-day on arrival, three full hunting days, and a final half-day on departure. Hunts are typically conducted on a 1×1 guided basis, with 2×1 options available when needed. Guests enjoy home-style meals and comfortable ranch-style lodging throughout their stay.

West Texas elk country can be demanding, with temperatures often exceeding 90 degrees and terrain covered in thorny vegetation, rocky slopes, and rugged desert landscapes. The challenge is part of what makes these hunts so rewarding.

Hunters can expect opportunities at mature bulls exceeding 300 inches, making for a true Texas elk hunting experience.
